Black bean hummus

I love how versatile hummus is, you can make it so many ways.  I love to make this version just to share with veggies if I am working during the day for a nice snack.  You can also use this for a topping for your favorite sandwich, or make a burrito with chicken and slather some of this black bean hummus with your favorite toppings.

Using your food processor makes this job really easy and quick!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 can ( or 1 cup) of cooked garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed)
  • 1/2 can ( or 1 cup) of cooked black beans, drained and rinsed)
  • 1/4 cup tahini paste
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1 tsp. fresh orange zest
  • 1 tsp. oregano or thyme (dried)
  • optional pinch of cayenne
In a food processor mash the beans.  Add a little bit of water to get the desired consistency.  Add the tahini, and mix well.  Add the garlic, orange juice, orange zest and oregano and mix well.  Taste and adjust seasoning.  Stir in olive oil if using and chill until ready to serve.  This is delicious!!
